Lapidary of the Interior — Foundational Series — Vol. IV Classification: INTERIOR / UNRESTRICTED Editorial note: The following reports have been edited for this volume. Full versions are maintained in the field report archive at obregistry.net. Identifying details have been removed at holder request. Some observations have been withheld pending further analysis.
PREFATORY NOTE
The field reports are the Lapidary’s most direct record. Everything else in this archive — the case files, the signal research, the foundational documents — is interpretation or summary. The field reports are what happened.
The Lapidary presents selected reports here because the full record is extensive and technical, and because some of what the full record contains is not ready to be presented. Not because the Lapidary is withholding it arbitrarily — the Lapidary does not withhold arbitrarily — but because some observations in the full record have not yet been classified. The Lapidary does not publish unclassified observations in its foundational documents.
The reports below are classified. They are selected because they represent the clearest and most significant events in the documented record. They are edited because some details are the holder’s alone. They are presented because the record is the point, and the record should be accessible.
SELECTION ONE
From FIELD-REPORT-0023 — OB-07, First Liquefaction Event
The following is excerpted from the holder’s written account, filed with the registry as the first documented liquefaction event.
I have had the fragment for eleven years. In eleven years it has never done anything other than be what it is — very heavy, very cold, and completely incapable of being described to anyone who hasn’t seen it.
On the evening in question I was in the room with the fragment and one other person. The other person said: “is it doing something.”
I looked at it. It was.
The surface was no longer the way the surface is. The surface had become the way water is when there is no light — not reflective, not moving, but evidently liquid. The absolute absence of reflectance was the same. But it was not solid.
We stood at the edge of the room and watched it for the duration. Neither of us approached. I don’t know if this was caution or something else. We watched it for what I estimated as forty to fifty seconds. Then it was solid again.
I have been trying to write this account for several weeks. This is the account I am able to give.

Lapidary note: The second witness added one detail the holder did not mention: during the event, the depth of the liquid surface appeared to exceed the physical dimensions of the fragment. The fragment is approximately seven centimetres at its deepest point. Neither witness approached. Neither lowered anything into the surface.
SELECTION TWO
From FIELD-REPORT-0041 — OB-05, Second Liquefaction Event
The following is excerpted from the Lapidary representative’s account. A representative was present at the holder’s facility for a scheduled monitoring visit when the event occurred.
The transition appeared to take approximately two seconds — from solid to whatever it becomes. The word liquid is accurate and inadequate simultaneously. Accurate because it is not solid. Inadequate because it does not move the way liquids move. It does not reflect. It has depth that does not match the fragment’s physical dimensions.
I retrieved the depth probe from the monitoring kit. The holder said: “I wouldn’t.” I lowered it anyway.
The probe read normally to a depth of approximately five centimetres. At five centimetres the readings became erratic — values outside any calibrated range, then values of zero, then values the monitoring software flagged as instrument error. I withdrew the probe at seven centimetres. The probe was at the physical limit of the fragment’s depth. It had not reached a bottom.
The event ended at one minute and thirty-seven seconds from onset. The surface became solid. The transition appeared to take less than one second — faster than the onset transition.
I sat on the floor. The holder sat on the floor. We remained there for some time.

Lapidary note: The probe was recovered undamaged. Its readings resumed normally immediately upon withdrawal from the fragment surface. The representative’s record is consistent with the holder’s account. A second witness to a fragment event has now said “I wouldn’t” and been ignored. The Lapidary notes this without interpreting it as a pattern.
SELECTION THREE
From FIELD-REPORT-0089 — OB-07, Events Three and Four

The following selections are drawn from a combined report covering two events during a single monitoring visit. Some observations from this report have been withheld from this volume pending further classification. The Lapidary acknowledges this is the only instance in this archive where material has been withheld for this reason.
On Event Three:
The event began during a frequency induction test. A frequency condition was being tested at the time of onset. The Lapidary does not conclude from this that the frequency condition caused the event. The Lapidary notes the timing.
The holder retrieved the depth probe. I said: “I wouldn’t.” The holder lowered it anyway.
The probe continued below seven centimetres. We let it descend to twelve centimetres before withdrawing it. The surface did not change during the probe’s presence. The readings at depth were: instrument error, then zeros, then values the monitoring software had not been designed to display. They were displayed anyway.
The event ended at two minutes and fifty-eight seconds. The probe was recovered. The room was cold.
On Event Four:
The second event began approximately four hours after the first. No stimulus was running. We were in passive monitoring mode.

Lapidary note on the duration: Four minutes and thirty-two seconds. The Lapidary notes this. The Lapidary is aware that 432 is a number that appears in certain acoustic and architectural traditions. The Lapidary has not yet tested the frequency 432 Hz in controlled signal research. The Lapidary notes this also.
SELECTION FOUR
From FIELD-REPORT-0112 — Anomalous Simultaneous Cross-Fragment Readings
The following is from the most recent field report in the archive. It covers an event that is not a liquefaction event — no fragment reached the liquid state — but which the Lapidary considers significant enough to include in this selection.
At 03:17 UTC, remote monitoring equipment registered anomalous readings across three fragments simultaneously. No liquefaction event occurred. No attempt was being made. The Lapidary was not doing anything.
Three fragments. Two continents. Onset within five seconds of each other. End within two seconds of each other. Duration approximately eleven minutes each.
The largest temperature deviation the Lapidary has recorded from OB-05 — outside of a liquefaction event — occurred during these eleven minutes. The deviation was larger than any previously recorded response, including OB-05’s responses during OB-07’s fourth event.
OB-07’s monitoring returned instrument errors for nine of the eleven minutes. The optical monitoring registered a surface change consistent with early-stage liquefaction. Whether a full liquid state was achieved and not captured by the equipment, or whether the fragment approached transition without crossing it, is not resolved.
The Schumann resonance reading at the time of the anomaly: 9.1 Hz. The Lapidary’s previous observations had noted a correlation between elevated Schumann readings and liquefaction events. 9.1 Hz is the highest reading recorded in conjunction with a fragment event or anomaly. The filed observation on Schumann resonance is in the signal research archive and predates this report by several years. The Lapidary did not act on it at the time.
The Lapidary is acting on it now.

ON WHAT THE REPORTS DO NOT CONTAIN
The reports contain accounts of what observers experienced and what instruments recorded. They do not resolve what the liquid state is, what exists at the depth the instruments did not reach, or what the simultaneous events mean.
The Lapidary is aware that the most significant information in these reports is in what the observers could not describe adequately. The holder of OB-07 said, at the conclusion of the fourth event, something the Lapidary has recorded but has not been able to classify. The full report contains this statement. The Lapidary has not included it in this selection because it does not yet know what to do with it.
When the Lapidary knows what to do with it, the relevant section of this volume will be updated.
